The RAK5148 is a 2.4 GHz LPWAN hub module in mini-PCIe format. Based on the Semtech SX1280, it can be easily integrated into existing routers and other network equipment to turn them into LPWAN gateways. Compatible with any embedded platform featuring a free mini-PCIe port and SPI/USB connection, it also integrates a ZOE-M8Q GPS chip.
The RAK5148 is a compact, versatile 2.4 GHz LPWAN hub module, designed for easy integration into systems where space is limited. Its mini-PCIe format makes it easy to install in any compatible device.
Power supply: The RAK5148 concentrator module must be supplied with 3.3 V by a DC power supply via the VAUX pins. The voltage must be stable, as the current consumption may vary considerably during operation, depending on the power consumption profile of the SX1280 chip.
SPI interface: The SPI interface mainly supplies the Host_SCK, Host_MISO, Host_MOSI and Host_CSN pins of the system connector. It enables access to the SX1280 configuration register via an STM32F446RCT6 microcontroller. Only the slave side is implemented.
USB interface: The USB interface mainly provides the USB_D+ and USB_D- pins of the system connector. It provides access to the SX1280 configuration register via an STM32F446RCT6 microcontroller. Only the slave side is implemented.
UART and I2C interfaces: The RAK5148 integrates a ZOE-M8Q GPS module with UART and I2C interfaces. The pins of the gold-plated connector enable both UART and I2C connections, providing direct access to the GPS module. The PPS signal is not only connected internally to the STM32F446RCT6, but is also accessible on the gold connector for use by the host board.
GPS_PPS: The RAK5148's GPS_PPS input enables precise time and date stamping of received packets.
RESET: Resetting the RAK5148's USB and SPI cards is controlled by the microcontroller.
RF antenna interface: The module features an RF interface on a standard UFL connector.
